E-USOC is a centre of renowned international prestige specialised in research and development (R&D) activities within the area of aerospace science and technology. It is located at the Campus of International Excellence of Montegancedo of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
It is the only Spanish control centre and one of the seven European delegated by the European Space Agency (ESA) to prepare and conduct experiments in the ISS. It is responsible for all experiments that ESA does in the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG), a NASA laboratory. It seeks to provide information and promote activities in the field of space sciences and fluid mechanics.
E-USOC conducts research and technological innovation in the area of fluid mechanics in microgravity, when developing nanosatellites for scientific and technology demonstration missions, as well as in several areas of space technology, such as attitude control. Likewise, one of its main objectives is the transfer of knowledge to the students of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Aeronáutica y del Espacio (ETSIAE), through the use of innovative teaching methodologies, based on which it has a close relationship with ESA Academy, with which it collaborates in the development of teaching material.
